There’s plenty in store with the Have-Not twist this season. Hopefully none of you enjoy it. <3 - Lorde, BB12

Have-Nots is a twist introduced in BB12, and later re-used in BB13 as the Penalty Game.

Details

In BB12, chosen by competition or the last week's Have-Nots, Have-Nots would have to endure punishments and complete tasks as a result of their Have-Not status, making their time in the house more difficult for the week. Though some punishments are recycled, unique punishments include:

  • Crossword Puzzle: On week 1, Aria, Mars, and Senkun were assigned a Crossword Puzzle to complete. If they failed to complete it by the time the week's POV competition end, they would be punished with a 20% score reduction in week 2's HOH.
  • Self-Portrait Profile: On week 3, Anna and Brave were told to redraw their profile picture on the wiki for the season, and once completed, make it their profile picture. If they failed to complete it by the time the week's POV competition end, they would be punished with a 20% score reduction in week 4's HOH.
  • It's Britney Bitch: On week 5, Draskk, Mars and Scattered were given a list of songs by the Princess of Pop: Britney Spears. They were told to pick 5 of those songs, and write a 70 word review for each song they chose. If they failed to complete it by the end of the week, they would be punished with a 20% score reduction in week 6's HOH.

In BB13, the twist was determined strictly by competition, with the lowest scorer in the HOH competition being named a Have-Not, receiving a punishment, a task to complete. Unlike in BB12, however, there wouldn't be any game-related penalties, such as POV score reductions.

Effects on the Game

Ultimately the Have-Nots twist had little to no effect on the actual game. Besides the POV penalty, the punishments were simple tormenting or embarassing/joke-y content. The one exception to the rule was when Anna lost the Day 56 POV during the second double eviction as a result of her Have-Not status, which ultimately led to her eviction.

Player Reception

The houseguests did not enjoy the Have-Not twist, mostly because it often involved tedious tasks to complete or penalties would be faced, as well as the common disdain for the profile picture/nickname choices production gave them while they were Have-Nots. That said, others enjoy the twist looking back on the season, believing it adds a layer of fun to what can often be a tense and stressful game.
