The premiere of Big Brother 13: Starlight Stage began with 12 houseguests, returning to the house after a months-long break after BB12. Similar to BB12, this season brought 10 returning houseguests back for redemption, risks and blindsides, alongside 2 new houseguests ready to start their first chapter. After the house was given a bit of time to settle in and people began to get acquainted, the season's first twist was announced: the Popularity Palooza. During the first week, two houseguests would be evicted by a series of popularity-themed eliminations. First up was through the long-awaited return of BB3's 'Turnabout Trump,' though lacking the signature twist of flipping the results, the most popular houseguest after everyone had ranked the house would be granted immunity for the entire week, while the 2 least popular would be the nominees for an instant eviction. After the voting, Al managed to top the rankings and win immunity for himself, and an instant ticket to week 2, while Scorpion and Almonds were rated lowest and subsequently put on the block. Once the nominees were announced, the house quickly agreed to evict Scorpion, and he was sent packing by a unanimous 10-0 vote, becoming the first person evicted from the Big Brother house.

After Scorpion's eviction, the next phase of the week's twist was announced: Safety Duels. Excluding Al, the 10 houseguests remaining were paired with their exact opposite rank in the previous poll, and then dueled in a game of 'Connect 4.' The winner of the duel would be safe for the round, while the loser would be 1 of 5 nominees to vote on at the end of the week. Ultimately Blakers, Brave, Clear, Mirdo and Trunkz lost their duels and were nominated. Despite a bit of intrigue regarding voting out Blakers or Clear, the consensus landed on Brave for their pitch to protect the newer players rubbing some houseguests the wrong way, and they were unanimously evicted with all 6 votes.

After Brave's eviction, and the chaos of the season's opening week coming to an end, the next HOH competition 'ZBall' was announced. Despite competition from Almonds and TE, Cel managed to zag further than the rest and win the first HOH of the season! Setting his sights on targeting Sena, Cel nominated Sena as his target and Trunkz as his pawn. At the 'Space Invaders' POV, however, Cel's plans were quickly derailed when Sena managed to win the POV! Saving himself, Cel decided to lock in a new target, and chose to backdoor TE for being a comp threat that he'd failed to establish a strong working relationship with. With most of the house in agreement with Cel's new target, TE was successfully backdoored by a 6-1 vote, and evicted.

With TE's eviction still fresh, Violet announced the return of a mostly forgotten competition/twist from BB5: Fallen Stars. The 3 evicted houseguests in Scorpion, Brave and TE briefly returned to the house to plea with the houseguests to choose (or not choose) them for an undisclosed item. Ultimately, after a hastily ended discussion with the houseguests wanting to advance the game further, the house decided to choose Brave to receive this item. The gift wasn't a return to the game, but a gift to bestow on a houseguest of their choosing: the Silver POV, which would allow the holder to save 1 nominee from eviction this week, but not themselves if they were a nominee. Brave chose to give this power to Almonds, and the 3 evicted houseguests permanently left the game. From there, Blakers managed to crunch the numbers and win the '2048' HOH with a record-breaking score. Wanting the safety but not the blood, Blakers opted to play this HOH with a house agenda, and the hot topic of the week was Al. He nominated Clear and Trunkz, not wanting to commit to a plan prematurely if things changed and being fine with either leaving. The week's POV competition was 'Animal Tower,' which mirdo managed to score above the rest and win the competition! However, after the POV's conclusion, Violet announced Trunkz's expulsion for continued inactivity, and he was pulled from the game. Blakers was immediately asked to name a replacement and, going with the house, chose to name Al. Mirdo and Almonds both discarded the POV and Silver POV respectively, and a vote began between Al and Clear. Despite notable resistance from a couple houseguests, Al was voted out in a 4-1 vote.

Despite being evicted, Al had one last chance to impact the game with his choice. He was informed of his role in a new twist, the 'Word Game NG,' and that he had to pick a word that would penalize any houseguest who said it during the next week. Hoping to get Draskk penalized, Al chose the word 'Morning' and then exited the house for good.

Back in the main house, after Al chose the word, the twist was announced to the houseguests, which resulted in some conversations now being had in leetspeak or morse code to try and avoid punishments. The HOH competition was 'Counting Sheep' which Cel managed to run away with, winning his 2nd HOH in a row! He nominated Clear and Sena, initially targeting Sena for eviction but being content to see Clear go as well. Cel also managed to win the 'You Might Get Nervous' POV, securing himself full power for the week! Ultimately deciding to discard the veto, Clear and Sena were the final nominees. At the vote, it was announced that jury had begun, andeither Clear or Sena would become the first member of the jury. The week's vote tossed back and forth as agenda's finally began to conflict, and ultimately the house flipped in favor of sparing Sena 1 more week and removing a potential lock for the final 2, and Clear was unanimously evicted, becoming the first member of the BB13 jury.

Moving into the final 6 after Clear's eviction and the jury beginning to form, the next HOH competition was 'Obey the Game' which Draskk managed to run away with, becoming the new HOH! He decided to nominate Mirdo and Sena, with Sena as his main target but keeping a potential backdoor available. At the POV competition, 'Beach Hopping,' Sena was able to score highest and win the POV, saving himself from near-certain eviction yet again! Sena used the POV on himself, and Draskk decided to execute his backup backdoor plan and nominated Blakers as his replacement nominee. Despite Blakers expecting to be safe, the house knew it was time to pull a plug, and by a unanimous 3-0 vote, pull the plug they did and Blakers was evicted from the house, becoming the second member of the jury.

After Blakers' eviction, the next HOH competition was 'Friday Night Funkin', and Sena rocked his way to the top, becoming the new HOH! He decided to nominate Cel and Draskk as the 2 HOHs who had nominated him thus far into the game, with Cel as his target. At the classic POV 'Color Switch,' Draskk managed to win his second competition in 2 weeks, winning the POV! Choosing to save himself, Sena chose to nominate Almonds as a pawn to sit next to Celever, placing faith in Draskk and Mirdo to vote Cel out. His faith was well-placed, and Cel was swiftly evicted by a 2-0 vote without much chance to plea, ending his dominance and sending him to the jury.

With only 4 houseguests left, the game was nearing the end as everyone fought for their spot at the final 2. Draskk managed to win the 'WASD' HOH competition, securing his place in the final 3 and guaranteeing a chance to play in the final HOH of the season. He then nominated Almonds and Sena, with Almonds as his target. The final 4 houseguests then played in the competition 'Legends of the Fallen' for the final POV of the season. In the end, Mirdo managed to reach 3 points the fastest and won the competition, discarding the veto and cementing Almonds and Sena's place on the block. After listening to pleas, Mirdo decided to evict Almonds for his lategame threat status and jury threat level, sending him to the jury house.

With the game reaching its final point, the final 3 were all on edge and ready to win the final HOH of the season! With all 3 playing for their own individual, ideal games, part 1 kicked off with 'Love' from BB8 and BB9 returning, which Draskk managed to win, automatically advancing himself to part 3. Part 2 was 'Houseguest Superlatives,' a test of both knowledge and inference to determine the winner. While Sena failed to solve the puzzle, Mirdo managed to solve it pretty efficiently, winning part 2 and advancing to part 3. At part 3, Draskk and Mirdo dueled for the final time in 'Know Your Jury,' which after a few questions Mirdo managed to attain an insurmountable lead, winning the final HOH of the season! After listening to Sena and Draskk's pleas, Mirdo cast his sole vote to evict Draskk, naming him the fifth and final member of the jury.

Coming into the live finale, much of the jury came in with a predetermined vote and afforded themselves little flexibility when handling the finalists and their cases, with most believing Mirdo had played the stronger game out of the gate. Mirdo chose to highlight his socially involved gameplay as well as the high and lows of 8-seasons worth of experiences, while Sena chose to highlight his scrappiness and ability to perform and survive under pressure. In the end, the jury stuck by Mirdo's case, and Mirdo managed to win the game in a decisive 4-1 vote for forming powerful and memorable social relationships and managing to avoid being a target for the entirety of the game.
